So, I've finished casting off the shawl Sunday night and blocked it today. I honestly did not know how big it would be.
Getting down to stats:
Pattern: EZ 100th Anniversary Gull Wings Half-Circle by Mwaa Knit
Yarn: Generic sweater machine yarn from sweater bought at Salvation Army, laceweight
Needles: US4 (3.5mm)
For: Lisa, as a farewell gift/prayer shawl
Tweak involved: Subbing the third panel – it was supposed to be another block of Gull Wings – with another panel of lace.
It blocked to an almost semi-circle of 5.5 feet wide by 2.5 feet, approximately. Shocked me, but then, I should have known about the properties of lace when wet-blocked.
Some more details:
The blocking platform is a new thing of mine. I bought them for clearance a while back, and they turned out to be a noteworthy buy. I can understand why people swear by these foam boards when blocking lacy things. Very useful.
Though, my back ached so much from bending down and putting the pins in place. I need to remedy that sooner or later.
